Unlike the other volumes, this edition does not emerge from an artist residency or a photographic journey. It begins with a simple observation: the pervasive presence of the Virgin Mary throughout the Medellín metro.
Since 1996, as part of the Metro Culture project, representations of the Virgin have been installed across the city’s metro stations. Positioned alongside surveillance cameras, these images introduce another form of gaze into public space — one that suggests protection and peace, in quiet tension with the technological eye of the camera.
ART BOOK II reflects on this coexistence, and on what it reveals about faith, control, and the ways cities shape collective life.
